Online Professional Development (PD) Workshops

In the SECD online professional development (PD) workshops, participants access multimedia content and “meet” each other in online discussion groups, over the course of two to three weeks. During the workshop period, participants choose the times and locations most suitable for them to work through the engaging, interactive material and complete the weekly tasks. This format means it is convenient, flexible and ideal for people who cannot attend a face-to-face session for a wide variety of reasons!

A facilitator oversees each workshop by welcoming, orienting and guiding participants. Participants explore websites; do short readings; watch videos of experts, children and programs; and play interactive review games. Ultimately, by exploring the engaging content and then sharing ideas and reflecting with other participants in the online learning community, participants can enhance their work with children and families.

Workshop participants have said:

"I learned many new techniques I am already practicing in my work environment."
“I am very glad this workshop is offered online as I have missed out on many opportunities living so far up north and the drive is 12-14 hours depending on our road conditions here. Definitely grateful!”
"I really enjoyed the videos and the group discussions. Hearing from the professionals as well as seeing different children's play experiences from all over the world was great to see and take in."
"It was a good learning experience for me. I liked the pace and the discussion part where I learned a lot from other participants." >
"This was a welcome change from the usual (either courses that seem too long or one/two day workshops & training that don't seem to offer enough)."
